Symptoms of Post-Arthroscopic Glenohumeral Chondrolysis (PAGCL) typically develop within 3 to 12 months after surgery and often include:
- Shoulder pain (either during activity or at rest)
- Clicking, popping or grinding of the shoulder
- Shoulder stiffness
- Shoulder weakness
- Decreased range of motion
The condition typically is diagnosed with an x-ray that reveals narrowing of the shoulder joint space, at teh shoulder's glenohumeral joint. As the cartilage deteriorates, the individual develops increasing pain associated with chondrolysis.
There is no cure for chondrolysis and the condition typically requires one or more surgeries to manage pain. An arthroplasty is the most common surgical procedure used to help those with chondrolysis.
